After graduate work at UCI, experiments with Mendota Stoppages and studio solo exhibitions. Later calls this period in Santa Monica studio highly important:

JT describes working in LA as being free and boundless because the city is
“tasteless … and it was a great place because you could do anything in it.
That’s why I liked L.A. [as opposed to New York]—the revenge of the tasteless.”
