Academic Programs
Interdisciplinarity and the arts
Building on James Turrell’s reputation as perhaps the best-known contemporary artist working in the “space between” disciplines, from art and design to astronomy, sustainability, health, archaeology, geology and beyond, ASU launched a constellation of academic programs in 2018 designed to educate, enrich and enlighten all who engage with Roden Crater.
Academic programs at ASU are led by the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, the largest comprehensive art and design college in the country. The Herberger Institute collaborates with faculty across 15 schools in the university to design transdisciplinary courses, including field labs, design studios, internships, online courses, and an array of public programs for a variety of learners.
