This 7-week online course is focused primarily on the artist James Turrell and Roden Crater, which is the physical culmination of his lifelong work at the interconnections of art, design, science and technology. Secondarily, the course examines the interdisciplinary nature of Turrell’s work and the inclusion of studies in volcanology, the cosmos, sky science, indigenous people, sustainability and stewardship. In the end, the course provides the example of James Turrell as not only a pioneer in the arts but also as an individual with unlimited curiosity combined with boundless perseverance.
